DPI is not magic — it is optical imaging plus digital scaling. This test compares how many on-screen pixels your cursor travels against a physical distance you measure with a ruler.

How we calculate real DPI

The math is transparent — no driver APIs, no hidden scaling. Each horizontal micro-movement during the drag is counted as physical distance traveled.

  1. Pixels moved Σ |movementX| for every pointer event while measuring (includes small corrections if you overshoot).
  2. Inches traveled target distance in cm ÷ 2.54, or the target value directly when inch mode is selected.
  3. Real DPI round(pixels moved ÷ inches traveled).
  4. Deviation % (real DPI − rated DPI) ÷ rated DPI × 100.
  • Pointer lock keeps counting past screen edges.
  • Turn off OS pointer acceleration before testing.
  • Only horizontal movement counts.
