A dedicated surround sound test for surround sound speakers in 2.0, 5.1 (6 outputs), or 7.1 (8 outputs). Where the browser can address enough hardware channels, each pad fires a distinct sine; otherwise stereo pan stands in so you can still hear left vs right vs a folded rear.

Where to put surround sound speakers matters as much as cables. Tones tell you which wire is wrong; angles tell you why a rear pad sounds weak even when it plays. Use this as how to place surround sound speakers — not a substitute for an SPL meter.
Park L/R at ear height, toed in so they meet about 60° at the seat. Center sits on the same height band, directly above or below the screen, so dialogue does not jump to a side speaker.
Tip If Center is silent here, movies will smear speech into Front L/R
For 5.1 surround sound speakers, place the two surrounds about 110–120° off the screen axis, slightly behind the seat, near ear height. Keep both speakers the same distance from the main seat so Auto Test’s left/right pads feel even.

LFE is not a “location” channel — bass is weakly directional. Crawl: play the SUB pad, walk the room, and park the cabinet where the 50 Hz tone is even, not booming in one corner.

When the browser can open enough destination channels (often HDMI AVR or a USB interface), each pad routes to that speaker index. LFE (Low Frequency Effects) is the .1 in 5.1 and 7.1 — bass hits and rumbles, not full-range music. This tool plays a low sine on SUB so you can confirm the subwoofer is wired and not muted in the AVR.
5.1 is six speakers: Front L/R, Center, two surrounds, and LFE. 7.1 adds two more (Side L/R) and keeps dedicated rears. Match this page’s toggle to the diagram in Windows or your AVR or Side vs Rear pads will not match the room.
