Aspect ratio describes shape, not sharpness. 1920×1080 and 3840×2160 are both 16:9; the 4K image has four times the pixels but the same proportions. Confusing ratio with resolution causes wrong crop sizes, mismatched ultrawide expectations, and bad multi-monitor layouts.

- 1920×1080, 2560×1440, 3840×2160 all simplify to 16:9.
- 1920×1200 and 2560×1600 are 16:10 — noticeably taller than 1080p at the same width.
- 3440×1440 is ultrawide; divide width by height ≈ 2.39, not 1.778.
